LAHORE: The Accountability Court has on Friday rejected former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and daughter Maryam Nawaz’s plea requesting exemption from appearance in Avenfield cases.
Nawaz and daughter Maryam are currently in London to visit ailing Kulsoom Nawaz and had earlier filed an application requesting one-week exemption which has been rejected.
While hearing the petition filed by the former PM and Maryam, judge Muhammad Bashir rejected the one-week exemption plea.
He, however, granted a one-day exemption and asked Nawaz’s counsel to file a one-day exemption plea if Nawaz and Maryam could not appear in future due to obligations.
Talking to the media in London earlier today, Nawaz had said that “we have pleaded the court for exemption from appearance in cases, but we are not sure what will happen. Let’s see how things go.”
Maryam Nawaz had also tweeted on Wednesday that if the plea exemption is rejected, the two will return before the next hearing of the Avenfield case.
Off to London to see Ami. If exemption not granted, will return before next hearing Insha'Allah. Pls remember her in your special prayers. pic.twitter.com/W0v64Ycsfj
